MY SOLDIER BOY
Words & Music by Lester Brockton
Published 1917

At Bunker Hill and Lexington who showed them the goods?
Up from the South rode Washington and drove them to the woods,
And John Paul Jones what a "Rookie" was he!
Our Yankee heroes won on land and sea.

Soldier boy, pride and joy of a fighting race,
The time has come to say "Good-bye!".
There are tears in the cheers as you take your place,
Oh how we'll miss you bye and bye!
Hearts that yearn, eyes that burn just to see your face
With love that time can ne'er destroy!
With a tramp, tramp, tramp the boys are off to war,
Good-bye, my Soldier Boy!

When duty calls, our slogan is "America First!"
From North and South and East and West we're ready for the worst,
And the Red, White and Blue, dear old flag of the free,
Will still be waving over land and sea!
